What is Graphics A-Level?

Our A-Level Graphics course is all about visual communication and solving problems through the creative use of type, space and imagery.

Graphic design influences much of what we encounter daily. From product packaging and branding to signage and illustrations. 

This programme allows you to explore how design shapes the world around us and helps you develop the skills needed to create impactful visual messages.

What Will You Study in A-Level Graphics?

During the Graphics A-Level course, you’ll explore a wide range of design disciplines. This includes branding and logo development, as well as packaging and advertising. 

You’ll work with industry-standard tools like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, while developing both digital and hand-rendered techniques.

What is the Exam Board for A-Level Graphics?

The A-Level Graphics programme at Cardinal Newman is assessed by the Edexcel exam board. They are a respected provider of academic qualifications in the UK.

This qualification is widely recognised by universities and employers, giving you a strong foundation for future success in the creative sector.

What are the Entry Requirements for A-Level Graphics?

To enrol on to A-Level Graphics, you’ll need at least five GCSEs at grade 5 or above. This includes a grade 5 in any GCSE Art subject.

Accepted subjects include:

  • GCSE Art
  • GCSE Fine Art
  • GCSE Art & Design
  • GCSE Photography
  • GCSE Graphics
  • GCSE Textiles
  • Distinction in BTEC Art or BTEC Art & Design

If you haven’t taken GCSE Art, a portfolio task will be provided. For students who aren’t predicted a grade 5 or above in Art & Design, the BTEC in Art & Design may be more suitable.

At Cardinal Newman, we have a Mixed Programme option that you can consider. This programme lets you combine A-Levels with BTECs.
