Our A-Level Film Studies course dives into the language of film and its impact on viewer responses, emphasising how a film’s production context deepens our understanding and appreciation. This course covers a wide range of films from America, Europe, and other global cinemas, exploring how filmmaking advancements have influenced viewer experiences.

Students benefit from state-of-the-art facilities, including a classroom equipped with an interactive 4K screen and access to digital filmmaking and editing tools. What’s more, there may be opportunities for educational trips, such as visiting Hollywood, to enhance learning through real-world experiences.

What is the Exam Board for A-Level Film Studies?

The exam board for the A-Level Film Studies programme is Eduqas. They are known as one of the biggest exam boards in the UK, responsible for setting the syllabus, creating exam materials, and marking assessments.

What are the Entry Requirements for A-Level Film Studies?

To enrol in the Film Studies A-Level course at Cardinal Newman, students need a minimum of five GCSEs graded 5 or above. This includes at least a grade 6 in English Language or English Literature.

At Cardinal, we also offer a Mixed Programme. This enables students to combine A-Level studies with BTEC qualifications. Ultimately, this option provides flexibility for students and ensures everyone has a pathway that suits their educational needs.
