Business Studies

The Business Studies A-Level course at Cardinal Newman offers a thorough understanding of how businesses operate. The curriculum is designed to equip students with sound knowledge needed to manage and strategise in a business setting.

Key areas of study include:

• Year 1: Basics of setting up and managing a business, understanding different business organisations, and exploring financial, human, and operational aspects.

• Year 2: A deeper dive into business strategies, the impact of economic factors on business, and methods for analysing and assessing business success.

After completing the A-Level Business Studies programme, students are well-positioned to pursue a wide array of career opportunities.

This could involve further specialisation in a particular business area at university or entering straight into the workforce through apprenticeships at major companies like BAE Systems.

Alternatively, the entrepreneurial skills developed during the course may inspire students to launch their own ventures or consider immediate employment to gain practical experience. 

The A-Level Business Studies course at Cardinal Newman is assessed by the Eduqas exam board, part of WJEC.

This board ensures that the examinations accurately reflect the curriculum and maintain rigorous academic standards. 

The course is assessed through three exams at the end of the two years. The exams vary in style and focus from short answer definition questions, some quantitative based answers, arguing two sides of a decision, and all leading up to an essay at the end from a choice of three titles.

To enrol in the A-Level Business Studies course, students need a minimum of five GCSES graded 5 or higher, including at least a grade 4 in English Language and Maths.

We also offer a Mixed Programme. This allows students to combine A-Level studies with BTEC qualifications.
