Four players from Cardinal Newman College’s Men’s Academy Football Team have been selected to play for Lancashire County under 18s team.
The students, who are all studying A-Levels or BTEC Level 3 at Newman, already combine their studies with playing at a competitive level for the academy team.
All College and Sixth Forms in Lancashire are invited to nominate players to try out for the County team, with more than 100 players from across Lancashire in attendance at the trial day, which took place at the end of September.
An initial squad of 25 was chosen, including four Cardinal Newman players, Antonio Iglesias-Leeming, Yasin Rezaei, Frankie Fisher and Max Nightingale, the largest number from any one College to be successful!
Since their trial and selection, all four players have made the match day squad and will now be playing competitive fixtures in the Northern Counties League. Split into two halves, (East and West) with teams in each half playing each other twice, both home and away, before the winning two teams head to the semi-finals, with the winners taking on each other in an East Vs. West Northern final!
