Recently, the Foundation Learning faculty was faced with the sudden passing of one of our students, Isaac McCann. Isaac was a ‘breath of fresh air’ in the faculty, he was always smiling and just loved sport, in particular football.
We wanted to remember and pay tribute to Isaac the best way we could, so decided to hold a sports day in his honour. The faculty was divided into 6 teams who competed in a carousel of Sporting quizzes and challenges in the morning and then a multi-sport tournament in the afternoon. The competition was tight and competitive, especially amongst the staff, with the Green team finishing as winners of the inaugural Isaac McCann cup.
Preston North End staff, who had worked with Isaac, as well as Isaac’s mum and family took part in the tournament. We also had a special visit from Preston North End Goalkeeper, Dai Cornell, who presented Isaac’s mum Tina with a signed PNE shirt and took on penalties from our students.
Students were asked to wear blue or yellow, the colours of Isaac’s beloved Leeds football club on the day and made donations. They also raised money by selling gift items and, in total, raised £218 for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, a charity chosen by Isaac’s family.
This event not only commemorated Isaac's life and passion for sports but also highlighted the strength and support present within Foundation Learning during challenging times. It was a great day to remember Isaac, who left a positive impact on everyone he met and will leave a long-lasting impact on our faculty.
