A group of Travel students from Cardinal Newman have successfully completed a 12-week cabin crew course. The students, who all aspire to work within the travel industry, took part in the 12-week programme delivered at the College.
The course, which is based on the Level 2 Vocational Cabin Crew syllabus, saw the students take part in 12 comprehensive sessions, covering essential skills needed to fulfil a cabin crew role. The focus is on customer service, so the programme ensures that students develop the necessary skills to succeed in a service-orientated environment and students worked collaboratively in teams to address and resolve service-related challenges.
They covered topics such as boarding and pre-flight duties, safety demonstrations and landing procedures. The group were also able to demonstrate excellent ability to deal with emergency situations, including first aid.
The course was developed in response to the increasing number of students wanting to pursue a career in the hospitality sector and provides targeted preparation for careers in the airline industry. A total of 10 students have graduated from the programme, after successfully completing the course, which finished with a practical assessment.
Following on from completion of the course, the year 13 students have already started to secure interviews and positions working as cabin crew when they finish college! Amani Chellal, for example, who studies BTEC Diploma in Travel and Tourism, alongside an A-Level in Spanish has now secured a position working as Cabin Crew for Ryanair. Amani starts her training on 15th July in Manchester and said: “Doing the cabin crew course at college helped me so much. It made me feel like I actually could get the job and gave me the confidence to go for it. It also means I’ll feel way more prepared when I start training because I already know a lot of the basics. I am really excited to start the job and can’t wait to use the skills I have learnt.”
Congratulations to all involved, we can’t wait to be on one of your flights!
