Feeling Festive!

Christmas Charity Events

At Cardinal Newman, never is our Catholic Ethos more obvious than at Christmastime, when the sheer volume of charity events and fundraisers takes over our campus. From food drives, gift appeals, hampers for our local elderly neighbours to Christmas Jumper day and the Chemistry Charity Club’s bath bomb sale, not to mention endless bake sales…it really showcases how the College community comes together in support of others less fortunate. It is also perhaps proof that our Principal is right and Newman really does run on cake!

Festive Activities

We love nothing more than getting into the festive spirit, with activities running throughout the month of December across the whole College. Advent is marked at the start of the month, before enjoying a festive treat for the eyes and ears in the form of our Cross College multicultural carol concert, where the music, modern foreign languages and chaplaincy department come together to sing traditional carols from Spain, France and Germany as well as some English classics. We also host our annual and highly anticipated Christmas party for our elderly neighbours, with lunch and entertainment.

Foundation Learning Festive Fun

Each Year our Foundation Learning students go all in with festive activities. It has been like Santa’s workshop, as they have been working hard throughout the month of December creating festive treats and gifts which they have been selling at the College to raise money for The Space Centre, a multi-sensory space for children and young people with Special educational Needs. Crafts included Christmas cards, ‘snowman soup’ and decorations.

They also celebrated the season with their annual Christmas party, which was held on Tuesday 11th December in the dance studio. The students played different types of Christmas themed games including bingo, pass the parcel and pin the nose on Rudolph.

Organised by the BTEC Business students, as part of their event management skills evidence for their qualifications, each student was assigned a specific role and had to demonstrate excellent skills.

At the end of the party, all of Foundation Learning students got a small gift to take away with them to remember the fun time they had. BTEC Business students really enjoyed organising the event and said that it was so nice to meet and celebrate with students from different parts of the College.

Head of Foundation Learning Lisa Kirkman said: “The students had a wonderful time, it is so lovely of  our Business department to think of them each year when organising this event.”
