We offer a wide variety of courses which range from the traditional subjects such as History, Maths, Art and Geography to courses not normally available in high school: Law, Dance, Film Studies, Digital Photography etc. In addition, we offer Advanced Vocational courses (e.g. BTEC National Certificates and BTEC National Diplomas) in a range of subjects including Health and Social Care, ICT, Performing Arts, Art and Design, Sport, Travel and Tourism and Business. In total there are over 50 different courses to choose from and at Cardinal Newman you can combine traditional and vocational courses and a GCSE if you need it for your future career.

Intermediate Courses

We offer a limited range of GCSE re-sit exams in English, Maths and Science, and we also offer a range of Intermediate Vocational courses, these include the BTEC First Diploma courses in a subjects such as Business, Health and Social Care or Sport.

How many subjects can be chosen?

A standard expectation is that all Advanced Level students will study the equivalent of four subjects (or more), with Advanced BTECs counting as 'double' or 'triple' subjects. Typical combinations would be:

* Four (or even five) AS Levels

* A BTEC National Certificate and two AS Levels

* A BTEC National Diploma with one AS Level

* Three AS Levels and a GCSE re-sit

* BTEC First Diploma and a GCSE re-sit

A number of students study five AS/A Levels, but the demands of this course are significant and you will need evidence of excellent GCSE results to succeed with this challenging course. If you aren't certain about how many subjects to choose, don't worry, we will give you advice and guidance when we see you for your interview.
